Dr. Jason Friedrichs was inspired to go into ophthalmology by his father, who lost his vision early in life due to a congenital eye disease in the family. Because of his genetic disposition to blindness, Dr. Friedrichs spent a lot of time in eye doctors’ offices as a child. Now he helps others manage their own eye health.
After receiving his bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and his master’s degree in molecular physiology at the University of Illinois, he received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and served a one-year internship in Oak Park, Illinois, at West Suburban Hospital.
Dr. Friedrichs completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa where he learned a variety of ophthalmological techniques. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
His specialties include diagnosing diseases of the eye and treating patients of all ages both medically and surgically for various vision related ailments, including cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, refractive error, and corneal dystrophies.
Dr. Friedrichs feels strong ties to the families in his community. He wants to offer families in the Sycamore and DeKalb area affordable, quality options in eyecare and vision correction and more office hours that families can fit into their hectic schedules.
